A PlayStation is a video game console. It was developed by Sony Computer Entertainment and first appeared in the cyber-recreation arena on December 3, 1994. It is a 32-bit console and belongs to the fifth generation. But it was the first of its kind having hand-gripping devices. PlayStation can boast of being the premier video game console, which almost touched the sales figure of a hundred million pieces.

The total memory of a PlayStation is generally made up of 512 KB of Audio RAM and 1 MB of Video RAM, apart from the 2 MB of main RAM, 512 KB of Operating System ROM, 32 KB of Buffer CD-ROM and 128 KB of PlayStation memory cards stored in an EEPROM. When it was first released, PlayStation came as the greatest surprise in the domain of console games. The large-capacity CD-Rom drive, which PlayStation boasts of, enabled it to replace the age-old game cartridge. The PlayStation ROM allowed the game designers to redefine the old ways in which they developed games. It enabled them to create and present games with the help of 3D graphics and cyber-cinematics.

ROM is nothing but the abbreviated form of Read-Only-Memory, which reads the encrypted codes on the chip of the cartridge or the game arcade.

The computer needs to have a good processing ability and high strength of memory for a PlayStation ROM to run perfectly and consistently.
