Air Cleaners - Automotive Air Filters
Before the 1950s, many internal combustion engines used oil-bath air filters but most automobile air cleaners now use paper filters. These filters are inexpensive but they hinder air flow somewhat. Cylindrical filters and carburetor intake systems are often found on older vehicles, while flat panel air filters and fuel injection systems are used on newer cars. Conical filters and cold air intakes are sometimes used to improve the air flow rate into the throttle.
