PageRank is the essential force behind Google’s popular and powerful search capability. In short, without PageRank there is no Google. This was discovered by Google Inc. founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin at Stanford University in 1995. In 1998, they established Google Inc. and started to revolutionize the search engine industry.

To borrow from Google’s definition, PageRank “relies on the uniquely democratic nature of the web by using its vast link structure as an indicator of an individual page’s value. In essence, Google interprets a link from page A to page B as a vote, by page A, for page B. But, Google looks at more than the sheer volume of votes, or links a page receives; it also analyzes the page that casts the vote. Votes cast by pages that are themselves “important” weigh more heavily and help to make other pages “important.”

To make PageRank more effective and relevant, Google uses a cutting edge text-matching system to quickly evaluate every page’s content including links and texts. More importantly, PageRank is not for sale! No advertiser irrespective of size or name can demand or pay Google to increase its rank. Hence, Google remains objective and extremely appropriate to all your search needs.

Although Google developed new methods and systems to enhance their search engine capabilities, PageRank remains the key system in every search around the globe.
